Board Member Testimonial: Beverly Razook

Leading up to and throughout the season, we will be featuring testimonials from some of our board members and commissioners, which we hope will inspire you to consider joining the board and/or as a commissioner.
This testimonial will feature PHBA Vice President, Beverly Razook!
How long have you been a board member or commissioner at PHBA?
This is my third season on the board.
Do you currently have family members registered for the season and how long have they been playing/Did you used to have family members that played in PHBA and how long did they play?
My son is playing in Baseball Western and has played in PHBA since he was 4 years old. This is my daughter’s first season not playing softball with PHBA. She played for 11 years. This is her first season helping to coach my niece’s Softball Instructional team. Fun fact: my husband played PHBA as a kid too.
What initially motivated you to join the board or as a commissioner for PHBA?
PHBA has been great to our family and it seemed like the behind-the-scenes crews were having a lot of fun. As a stay-at-home mom, it seemed like a great way to stay busy and meet people.
What have been some of the highlights/rewarding moments as part of the board/commissioners? What’s your favorite part about your responsibility in the board or as a commissioner?
So many! Working closely with fellow board members, commissioners, umpires, coaches, and our Field Crew, it is so heartwarming to see how many people care so much about keeping this league running for future generations. I experience a lot of great little moments almost daily. I’ll share a silly highlight from this season. I was so busy on Opening Day that when my son texted me that he ran out of water right before his game, I didn’t have time to run it over to his field. I couldn’t leave my position, but a wonderful Field Crew member drove a Gator to deliver water to him for me. It made me very cool to my son for at least a day! Thanks, Ethan! My favorite part of my responsibilities on the board is getting to know members of our community.
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining the board/commissioners?
Come to a virtual board meeting. It’s low-stakes and from home!
What’s your favorite event that PHBA hosts or attends either during the season or the offseason and why?
Obviously, Opening Day can’t be beat! I love looking out into the crowds and seeing how our many hours of planning turn into real life fun for about 1900 kids and their families. It’s a long and busy day for us, but it is exhausting in the best way.
If you were to step to the plate right now, what would be your walk-up song?
“Mint Car” by The Cure
