PHBA Managers, Coaches, and Umpires: As in prior years, all Opening Day games are official and will count toward league standings. To accommodate as many teams as possible, we are modifying rules for Opening Day only as follows:

Opening Day Time Limits (Drop-Dead)

Softball Baseball
Instructional 4: 45-minute drop-dead

Instructional: 45-minute drop-dead

Pioneer: 90-minute drop-dead

American: 90-minute drop-dead

National: 90-minute drop-dead

Western: 90-minute drop-dead

Instructional 5/6: 45-minute drop-dead

Intermediate 7: 60-minute drop-dead

Pioneer: 90-minute drop-dead

American: 90-minute drop-dead

National (PO5): 90-minute drop-dead*

Western: 120-minute drop-dead

Minimum inning rules are suspended for all divisions on Opening Day.

*Baseball National games played at Valley View on Opening Day will follow regular field restrictions: no new inning after 2 hours, drop-dead at 2:15 (except for 8:00 PM games).

Between Games

There will be approximately 20–30 minutes between games for minimal field prep and team transitions. Please:

  • Have your teams warmed up and ready at least 30 minutes prior to game time.
  • Hustle on and off the field.
  • Expect umpires to keep games moving.

Time Limit Scoring Rules

If the home team is at bat and ahead when time expires, the game is final.

  • If the visiting team is at bat and ahead when time expires, the score reverts to the last completed full inning.
  • Ties are possible.
  • Run rules remain the same as in regularly scheduled games.
  • Some divisions (e.g., Softball Western) may still complete full games within the allotted time.

Byes

Due to field limitations and division sizes, some teams will have byes on Opening Day.

Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation. This is shaping up to be one of our biggest and busiest Opening Days yet. Please ensure your teams are fully informed of these rules to minimize confusion.

Best of luck to you and your teams this season!
