Welcome Home PHBA Umpires

The Basics

Did you know if only takes 4 games to satisfy your LAFF Requirement? It's a fact!

We can't think of a better way to experience the game!

PHBA takes a lot of pride in developing new and beginning umpires (0-3 years experience) to help you learn quickly and have fun while doing it.

Whether you're umpiring for the first time or refreshing your skills from past seasons, you'll be able to follow the Umpire Leadership Team (ULT) and Umpire Mentor's simplified approach to training and supporting volunteers on the necessary skills needed to umpire and apply PHBA rules.

Training

New umpires will be required to complete the Level 1 training class. Go to Umpires->Level 1 Training for a summary of the topics covered in that class. It is a total of a 3 hour commitment, but it is more than enough time to get you ready for getting on the field. If you are a returning umpire or would like to level up, you will be required to complete the necessary advanced training sessions.

Support

As a new umpire, you are sure to be a littel nervous. We have you covered. All first year umpires will be working with an experienced plate umpire whow will also act at the Umpire in Chief (UIC) for the game. The coaches will always deal with the UIC when questioning call and challenges. You will get in on the discussion with the UIC alone as necessary. Pressure relieved!

Clothing and Gear

PHBA will provide the hat and shirt for all umpires. You will be required to wear grey slacks and black shoes, so hopefully you have these. There are several inexpensive options for this gear should you choose to biy umpire pants and shoes. If you are ready to step up to the plate, PHBA has you covered there as well!

Contact the Chief or any other ULT Member to gain access to the Level 1 Bases training page that will guide you through the basic knowledge required.
